It's perfect for a peaceful afternoon stroll with six waymarked walks of varying lengths. Yesterday saw Morris dancers there, which was curious, as well as well-dressing and a plant sale. Approximately 8 miles west of Aberdeen city lies Drum Castle, the castle and its grounds were granted to William de Irwyn in 1325 by Robert the Bruce, and remained in the possession of Clan Irvine until 1975. Very close to Maryculter Hotel. I enjoyed exploring the house and learning the history of the area and the people who lived there. There's a series of nice trails to try here with woodland, an arboretum and a rose garden.

The castle's tower was an adventure. Great fun.An excellent place to visit. The castle is well maintained and not stuffy.family visit in march 2016. There is an interesting modern art exhibition and a lovely Rose garden to see as well as lovely walks around Drum Wood. Ask alistair0662 about Drum Castle, Garden & Estate It was fun and informative and my 4 year old daughter enjoyed her chocolate prize at the end. We arrived earl afternoon and had a snack lunch in the packed restaurant area and we can recommend the "stovies" which is a Scottish shepherds pie.The house was interesting although probably not for small children. Went for lunch in the larder and had a really lovely lunch of soup and sandwiches.

All in all, a pleasant afternoon. To continue your walking in the area you could head east and visit the splendid Drum Castle. She had the right blend of history interesting details and amusing facts. We often walk our dogs here but recently went to the photography exhibition in the castle. Being able to put your feet where hundreds of people have for hundreds of years makes an impression on how good life is now! The castle itself is lovely and not too overwhelmingly big.Lots of information from staff. Climbing up the narrow, spiral staircase, seeing the living quarters of the guards, and finally walking around the tower roof, like the guards likely did, is a great experience. There are excellent walks to do around the Castle and a great walled garden whcih would be beautiful when in full bloom Spent an afternoon here with my wife and daughter. Lovely gift shop and great parking. Great experience at the exhibition and really enjoyed it.

Tree-lined paths lead to Drum Castle, which is a National Trust property and is open from Easter to October, although access to the grounds is available all year round. The gardens of the castle have been restored to display historic roses over the centuries. Not cheal but good quality.This is an interesting historic house in a rural area a few miles outside Aberdeen. Good old house to visit and lovely grounds. There are attractive grounds to wander round after visiting the house.Nice coffee and fresh scone, can be a bit noisy but a good outing, the shop has a great variety of goods to buyFirst time here, went on guided tour, very interesting and stunning place, little chapel is lovely, lovely gardens and Wallis, had lovely cup of tea and cake in tea rooms, staff were lovelyThe Irvine family was gifted this home by Robert the Bruce. An Easter Hunt had been set up which took you round the outside of the castle. Highlights include a lovely walled garden with gravel paths and wonderful specimen plants in herbaceous borders. It seemed well-organised (run by the National Trust for Scotland) - information cards in each room, friendly guides to explain points of interest, gift shop and a small cafe.

The dog wasn't allowed near the castle and its gardens but that wasn't a problem either.
