During the course of a single day in which she does nothing but pander to his needs, we watch Jane write two separate apologetic emails, both of which include the humiliating assurance that she will not “let you down again”.Brilliantly, Green opts to keep the monster at the centre of this labyrinth off screenThe demoralising effect of such Kafkaesque torment is, of course, entirely deliberate, deployed with practised ease to wrongfoot and disorientate.

Julia Garner excels as a junior assistant to a predatory media mogul boss in Kitty Green’s powerfully understated #MeToo dramaWhen her boss is out of the office Jane discreetly cleans his lair, sweeping powdered detritus from his desk, removing used syringes from his waste bin, picking suspiciously abandoned earrings out of the carpet, even scrubbing stains off the couch – a subject of ribald office banter. Because those powerful people make the people who play along rich -- or at least make the ones who don't poor.

Film très difficile d'accès, à la mise en scène clinique, rigide, géométrique, mais passionnante que ce soit dans l'utilisation des non-dits, des silences, des bruits et des hors champs ; j'ai pensé m'ennuyer au début, puis j'ai été fasciné par tous les petits détails qui rendent l'expérience assez terrifiante mais sans gros effets, juste avec subtilité et simplicité ; et Julia Garner est remarquable. No plot or character development. : The Movie trailer makes it seem as if there is some intrigue or a cover up that the assistant is going to expose.
It ends in medias res, with the title character getting ready to go home and get too little sleep and do it all over again -- and we know why, because everything in her world is set up to protect and facilitate certain powerful people, and she is not one of them. A searing look at a day in the life of an assistant to a powerful executive.
