It is all about the tools that cosmologists have used to be able to do this. We thought that the Earth was at the centre of the solar system, and then we thought that the sun was at the centre of the galaxy, but it turned out we were actually in one of the many spiral arms of a large galaxy.But aren’t we still near the edge of the galaxy? But these differences can’t be found anywhere in the fundamental laws of physics as we know them. Evalyn is an expert in gravitational lensing, which is the idea that by measuring the deflection of light around a cosmic object we can measure the object’s mass. Basically, a lot of it is updated from what you would find in these older books.Do you think that we still have a lot to learn from older books on cosmology? Einstein predicted this a long time ago and now we use it to probe the universe in very precise ways. Well, you can always find a way in which we’re special. We’re not particularly special in that respect; we’ve got to be somewhere! He admitted that what we know about quantum gravity seems to imply that information is not lost. And what we do is we use different clues to guide us. Back in the old days we were lucky if we knew numbers to within the right order of magnitude. But I think this is his underappreciated book. Actually, some of these books have been updated. There are various ways that we can observe that.

Unfortunately, I think they did quite a bad job with the movie. There is a barrier, because the theories that we are talking about are intrinsically mathematical.
