Parts of Germantown look very rundown and tired.
My family and I moved to Germantown about two years ago, and while researching Philadelphia neighborhoods, the question as to whether or not the neighborhood could be considered “safe” seemed to come up frequently by others considering a move to the area. This is why the question of whether or not Germantown is safe ever comes up at all. This neighborhood shares many of the characteristics of West Mt. For people looking for short, reductive answers, I would say that East Germantown and the area south of Queen Lane could be considered “unsafe.” Statistically, the area near the intersection of Germantown Ave. and Chelten Ave. is a higher crime area, but this is no different than most other major commercial areas throughout the greater Philadelphia area.So, based on my experience and research, I’d say there are safe and less safe parts of Germantown.
