Who is who and what actually happened? Go to People in the Bible or Women in the Bible. Ornan sees, in verse 20, an angel. 2Samuel says one thing and 1Chronicles says another. However, when the angel reached Jerusalem, God ordered the angel to stop; at this point the angel was at Araunah's In the Books of Samuel, the census is said to indicate that there were 1,300,000 men fit for military service. We see an apparent contradiction in this transaction of David.

The prices were vastly different. Araunah sells the site to David as well as the supplies for the offering, and the plague is stopped (verse 25). In verse  18, we see that Araunah the Jebusite had a threshingfloor. The old man gets just a portion of redemption but, the new man gets an overflowing amount of wisdom. The Book of Chronicles states that the figure was 1,570,000 men fit for military service.

Araunah and Ornan are the same person. There are a number of reasons why this might be. We see in the twenty-third verse the noble generosity of this man in offering to present David with the threshing-floor, oxen, instruments, and wheat, free of cost. Ornan is a picture of the new man. Take note also, that the money given was silver by Araunah and gold by Ornan. Araunah is a picture of the old man. The gold of wisdom enables us to build our own sanctuary of praise in Jerusalem on top of Mt. Moriah!

How can this be explained? Araunah had his eyes on earthly things as he saw the king and his servants approaching. He wants us to build a Temple of praise with the wisdom given us through the new man. agile; also called Ornan 1 Chronicles 21:15, a Jebusite who dwelt in Jerusalem before it was taken by the Israelites.The destroying angel, sent to punish David for his vanity in taking a census of the people, was stayed in his work of destruction near a threshing-floor belonging to Araunah which was situated on Mount Moriah. David, in verse 24, offers to buy the threshingfloor and the oxen for 50 shekels of silver. So an angel was sent to spread the plague through the land. Araunah (Ornan) the Jebusite. At that time when David saw that the Lord had answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there. In 1 1 Corinthians 16:24, he is called ORNAN.The divine choice of his land for the temple site, 2 Chronicles 3:1, and his readiness to give it freely for this purpose, suggest the probability that he was a convert to the true religion. Next, in verse 20, Araunah sees the king coming toward him. The Samuel version is the final member of a group of narratives which together constitute the "appendix" of the Books of Samuel, and which do not fit into the chronological ordering of the rest of Samuel. In verse 18, Gad tells David to go see Ornan the Jebusite. In the version of the narrative presented by the Boo Was it Araunah or Ornan? Redemption is for the old man and wisdom is for the new man.

In the Samuel narrative, God was angry again both with Israel and with king David who imposed a census upon Israel, an order which Joab reluctantly carried out. Araunah (also known as Ornan) was the Jebusite who owned the treshing floor on Mount Moriah, which King David later purchased. When David made the mistake of taking a census of Israel, he was given by the Lord a choice of one of three punishments. And throughout 1 Chronicles 21 and 2 Chronicles 3:1 he is called ארנן (Ornan). Araunah is a picture of the old man. Araunah had his eyes on earthly things as he saw the king and his servants approaching. Ornan was probably the Hebrew or Jewish name of the owner of this threshing-floor; Araunah his Jebusite or Canaanitish name. The  LORD, from His lofty position, beholds the Christian as a dual person. Ornan had his vision lifted up and saw the spiritual angel accompanying David.

No. There's only one man named Araunah in the Bible, but his name comes in four different spellings. David, in verse 25, gives Ornan 600 shekels of gold for the threshingfloor (the future site of the Temple of God in Jerusalem).

First Chronicles 21 is the parallel passage to 2 Samuel 24, but we learn nothing new about Araunah there except that he was also called Ornan the Jebusite.
